HOW WE INFLUENCE POLICY
A key role in engaging business in public policy debates
How can the Surrey Economic Partnership help improve the business environment?
To ensure we understand the needs of businesses we work through the business representative organisations. Key to this is a close working relationship with the Surrey Chambers of Commerce whose understanding of business needs are local, regional and national. In addition, we work with the CBT, Institute of Directors, the Federation of Small Businesses and Sector Skills Councils. We also promote Business Link as the primary access point for government funded business support services.
Business leaders have told us what they want.
- A stronger business voice in articulating business needs with key public sector agencies
- Help in tackling skills and recruitment problems
- Support for Surrey's dynamic knowledge based economy, particularly through the promotion of knowledge exchange between academics and businesses
- Solutions to the transport, congestion and affordable housing problems
- Greater recognition for Surrey's corporate contribution to the national economy and the public purse
Surrey along with Berkshire is the major economic growth engine within the South East, delivering around 33% of the region's GDP. It is essential that Surrey Economic Partnership and business are locked in an ongoing dialogue about the drivers, the strengths and the challenges facing the Surrey economy, so that we can influence public policy and set the right economic development priorities.
We want business to back our campaign to get the government to 'invest in success' recognising Surrey's high corporate tax contribution and the importance of Surrey to the global competitiveness of the UK plc.
